Building a custom center console for My 95 xtra cab.
When i got my interior redone the guy converted my bench to buckets. Well since i have been wanting a center console i decided this would be the perfect time to build one. Sorry i forgot to start taking pictures till part of the way done but here check it out.
Here are a couple shots of the thing partly done.
Here is a picture of the cup holder before it is in the console.
Here is one of the cup holder in and wood filler on all the little gaps.
Sorry i didn't get more pictures guys i kinda forgot to take some. Im gonna try to sand it tomorrow if i have time around my 10 hour shift. I also had to make it thinner in the back because the little hump it will sit on is more narrow than up front. Let me know if there is anything other ideas i should do on it. What do yall think.
PS.Thats not my bright ass blue shoe.

How much was it to get your interior redone? What did it include? I'm thinking of doing the same to my 94 extra cab.
How come you didnt get the center console out of an SR5? Your home made center console looks great. I would paint it as well, try and match it up best as possible with the interior.

Thanks guys.when I got interior done it was 700$ and he made my bench into buckets and covered them. Repadded them and did the back seats to. Go look at my build up thread in the buildup section.and I'm gonna get it covered,I just need to make a lid and take it to the dude that did seats and he will cover it and pad it up nice. I couldn't find a runner console thay wasn't smashed or the wrong color, and thought it would be kinda cool to make it.Might cut a little compartment in front of the cupholders.

Alright sorry i havent been making any progress. I just finished the center console today. Here is a few pictures.
Here is where i started today. I had the sides of the lid cut out and set on the top.
Here is my scrap piece of wood screwed to the sides of the lid.
Here is my setup for sanding
The lid all sanded and shaped
Lid sitting on console
Hinge.
The whole thing
Set in truck
Give me some feedback guys. I think it turned out great. Now all it needs is to be covered!

hey, thats pretty cool stuff man! is the cupholder big enough for a 20oz? are you gonna cover it with carpet? and does it just sit between the seats or is it mounted to the floor? or just squeez between the seats/

Thanks man. It is gonna be mounted but i just have it set in there now till its covered. And gonna cover it with vinyl and carpet probably. And no it doesn't just squeeze in. It is a 4 inch hole so itle probably fit almost anything. Im gonna have to make something to hold the cup still and centered like in factory center consoles.

I recommend painting it with a good sealant befor covering it. Spilling drinks and cups sweating on it, or possible mud-hole run-in could wreak havoc on all that wood work.

Very cool! ....Nope, no ideas, but I'm enjoying watching ya! lol. Maybe go to the Wrecking yard and make a template for where the factory screws go on one with a factory console..... then look underneath to see if yours is set up for 'either way' from the factory(like most things are with these)... In other words, you might just have to pop out the metal in a couple places? My buddy built one that is on sliders and that way he can slide it back if he needs to crawl out the other side, etc. He has an extra cab 93.

Thanks for the feedback. Thats a good idea on mounting it. Im thinking if i take an L bracket or just a strait bracket. It will go from the side of the console to the side of the tranny hump. Did that make sence? Or maybe velcro it to the floor so it is easily removable?
I thought about the staining of it but decided that if the interior dude will cover it fairly cheaply it will turn out to be a real factory look.

Yeah buddy. I figured out how to mount the thing. Check it out.
Found some metal plates laying around the garage.
Cut them into 4 strips
Bent them with a vice and hammer. Excuse my crude fabing i dont have much metal fab tools.
since the floor isnt flush with the bottom because the floor of the truck is not even i will be able to put the brackets under it. Im going to drill a hole and JBWeld a nut on the bottom of the brackets. Then screw them to the
floor, drill 4 holes in the bottom of the console and bolt it down.

I decided the velcro was to light duty because this thing weighs about 10 pounds give or take a little. If im wheelin and need to crawl out the other side i will just step over it. I also decided it would be more permanent and just a little nicer.

Don't know about your year Yota, but on my 84 there are 2 threaded holes under the carpet for the center console. When I did mine I drilled 2 holes through the bottom of my console and mounted it using the factory holes.
