Hey guys, im well "Brand freaking new" to this site. Got my toyota about 3 days ago and am wanting to make it into a prerunner. I have a 1991 2wd Toyota pickup and was wanting to put some bigger mud tires on it for trail driving. So I was wondering how big of tires I can fit on stock height and how big i can fit with the 1.5 inch lift that I can get for it...(sadly only one i can find before jumping to like 2 grand.) Thanks alot in advance and i know its my first post so im gonna get flamed lol. Also what is the tire pattern i am looking for?

I would scan the used sources for a 4X4 A-arm assembly. Post in the classifieds section of this forum etc.

I just bought a whole 4X4 parts truck for much less than the price of a lift kit, so keep your eyes open. The rear is easy, just put the differential under the leaf springs instead of on top. Might need a longer driveshaft though.

Welcome to the site. I know nothing about lifts on a 2wd but m positive if you hang arounf here long enuff you will find out the answere to any question you might have.

SDORI sells the 1.5 2wd BJ spacers...is that what your looking at..?

Im guessing a simple body lift would be in order, but other then the bjs and the BL thats about it.
Unless you wanna spend 2 grand.

welcome and im in the process of lifting my buddies 92' pickup 2wd on stock you can fit up to 31" 10.5 but if you want 33s 4crawler ball joint spacers give a 1.5" lift for just under $150 shipped and downey 24mm torsion bars will give you an extra 2" with stock ride quality for 300. just remember to stick with 10.5 wide tires unless you want to pay another 300 for fenders or seriously cut your stock ones

I would go with 1.5" bj spacers (long style rear AAL or shackles for the rear) and a 2-3" body lift. Will give you room for bigger tires and some extra suspension travel.

Throw in some low pro bumpstops and go have fun!

Then save your pennies and buy a long travel kit

Check out this stuff from downey. I would look at the upper arm and t-bars for now and maybe blocks in the rear until you can spring for new leafs (no pun intended). You would clear 31" tire easy with that. i would look for a moderate all terrain tread pattern if it is your daily driver, ie: BFG AT, or something of similar pattern.

No blocks for the rear, you can do Chevy springs for the same money, and get 3.5 inches in the rear, bj's and t bars in the front and get 3 in the front. Dont forget a new rear diff with 4.56 or 4.88 gears for the taller tires. All told $700 to $1k better if you shop[- around for deals.

The chevy's are obviously the better choice, but he will have to weld new hanger postion for the front. I was assuming he wants to go as simple as possible. My first truck in HS I found a pair of blocks in the junkyard for $5! Considering a lot of Toyotas come form the factory with 31s you would be fine would the stock gears for now, and also the fact that a 2wd single cab is significantly lighter then a 4wd extra cab. No need for gears to help carry the extra weight around from the same power plant.

for lift up front, you have a few options:

in the rear, you're options vary, but you cannot use lift blocks on the rear since the rear spring is under the axle...
helper / add a leafs- good for about 2" lift;
extended shackles- good for another 1-2";
weld spring perches on top of the axle and put the axle under the springs.

max tire size stock is about 28", and expect some rubbing with the wheels turned if you hit a bump
with the 1.5" lift, 29-30" and as above, expect some rubbing with the wheels turned
with the spindles, 30-31" should be fine without rubbing

you also have the option of a body lift.

well, i'm doing a SAS, and will be getting rid of some 3" downey leaves and heavy duty torsion bars if your interested. i'm running 33" bfg m/t's and have hit the desert pretty hard and they do good. but i've got the V6, so i don't know if heavy duty torsion bars would be to stiff for your rig. would be cheep though
