Ok so I have a 86 4runner w/22re. I finally got around to replacing the A/C tensioner pulley today, fired up the ride and went cruising while enjoying my new found air conditioning. It ran great until I get to a stop then it kinda sputtered a bit but didnt kill the engine. By the time I get back to the house I shut off the air and turned it back on and either the belt is slipping and squealing or the compressor is, not sure which yet, but the weird thing is this...now when I start up and hit the brake the engine instantly drops RPMs, revs up and then drops again. This just keeps repeating as long as my foots on the brake. Oh and the air is turned off during this. I adjusted the white screw on the side of the EFI and got it to idle smoother and the brake problem disappeared. ???? I've been driving the truck for two years and never had to adjust idle at all, never been an issue with the brakes. So I quess my question is this, why would simply putting and new tensioner pulley on cause this strange behavior??

Mine does the same thing every now and then- I have no ac- might be a vacuum leak

What was the idle at? around 14000rpm the computer will kill the engine so that the idle drops then will let engine run again. Safety feature.

Just adjust your idle (screw on TB) down to 750-800 when the engine is warm. Once your base idle is set, then you can fine tune the AC idle up when the AC is on to around 1000 give or take a few RPMs depending on how you like it.
