Bought a junkyard 22re, has water in the oil

Drained the oil and water came out before the oil. Should I try to take it back or just go for it?

Also, would a 2wd 22re have a different oil pan than a 4wd 22re? When we tried to put it in the motor is sitting on my front diff.

could be just the head hasket, or it could be that the timing chain has worn through the cover

pull the valve cover off anf take a look to see if the driver's side guide is still intact. if it is and there's not a bunch of slack in the chain, then the head gasket's probably gone. if that guide is missing or broken, then the chain has probably riden up agains the inside of the timing cover and worn into the water pump housing

depending on what you find, the choise it up to you what to do with the motor but if the junk yard claimed it to be a good running engine, then I wouldn't take it in that condition anyhow, just my opinion

supper bleeder is rite but if you intended to rebuild it anyways wouldn't you have the block checked anyways. But if you're worried take the sucker back that is bullcrap.

Just cause an engine is in a wrecking yard doesn't mean its bad Most of the time engines are good. Gotta get the vehicle to the accident somehow!

I would do the research. Did you get it from a u-pull-it yard? Was is sitting outside? how long has it been there? etc etc. If its from a upull yard, rebuilt the entire engine. People don't give up Toyotas easy, so there is a reason that was there.

they had to pull it from the truck, but the dipstick was missing so maybe water got in that way.

Doubtful, unless the hood was off and they had a funnel hooked up lol.

If you paid good money, and it came with a warranty, then take it back and say WTF!

If you bought it because it was cheap....well, as the saying goes you got what you paid for.

Drop the pan and check the bearings. If you have rust, I would rebuild. You have to change the pan anyways as you have a 2wd motor

if you paid good money for a motor you should get your money's worth out of it. with that said if you picked it up cheap... well you get a "cheap" engine.. but it's up to you..

i'd take that sumbitch back if i paid for a runing engine.

and yes the oil pans are diff. i used my 2wd engine for the 4x4 set up. i used the oil pan and pick up tube off the 22re that was in the 4x4 and droped it in place. been runing like a champ for a few thousand miles no leaks.

i'm guessing your replaceing a bad motor anyway which is why you got the one you got now.. if your going to do a rebuild take the one you got back use that money towards the engine you have now... thats if you did'nt kill the block...

And next time, never buy a motor without hearing it run. Period.

i was gonna say for 500 it should still run.. but then again it might run, just piss fluids everywhere.. but still for 500 it's should'nt leak.. i'd take it back.. and demand a running engine you can hear..

Water = bad bearings.

Take it back or use it as a core to rebuild...
