body lift block diameters?
what's a good diameter of material to make body lift pucks out of? i can get 2.5" or 2.75" round bar. the 2.75" is cheaper but i don't want to buy it if it won't fit in the body mount locations.
does anyone know for sure?
thanks a lot,
isaac

I can get 17" of 2.75" white UHMW round bar for $11 from a guy in Toronto (he sells factory offcuts and the like). With shipping it's twenty bucks. Then all it'll take is some quality time with a drill press and miter saw.
Although, reading Roger's page there, I might not have the right idea of how hard this material is. Will cutting this stuff with a 40 or 60 tooth carbide blade work alright?

yep, only one inch. i only need a bit of boost for the new tires and i don't want to bother with rad brackets and shifter extensions. it's not that big a deal i know but i don't have time lately to be fiddling with a project like this for weeks to get it perfect. so 1" it is!
hell, at that price i can afford to make 2 or 3" blocks in the future if i want
edit: in case anyone's wondering, i did some searching and it seems UHMW cuts fine with regular woodworking tools, so i'll probably be able to quickly cut the rod into 1" slices with the table saw.

Ya and that's why I'm not worried about the blocks I bought all being 1" x 2", vs some that size and others being 1" x 2.5" and 1" x 3", etc. I think I paid around $25 for 10 w/shipping.

i think all u need is 2.5 tho, at 9.33 per foot.
Umm, roger uses a lathe to cut his blocks so they are precise... it is hard stuff and will gum up if you dont watch it... i made some rollers out of it for a conveyor at work but we used a lathe for everything.
A hack saw worked fine to cut it to length....

I'll go for the 2.75" round and if I need it smaller it'll be a good excuse to take out a bank loan and buy a Chinese minilathe
I can get 14.5" of 2.5" round white UHMW for $14 + ship, just over $20, but that won't leave me much left over. I might need some to make bearing blocks for a school project, so that's another reason to go with the 2.75".
Worst case scenario I order 6" of 2.5" round to make a few narrower pucks.
I'll call Mcmaster Carr and see what they'll charge around here, too.
A hacksaw would work but I'm worried about ending up with 12 blocks that are 1/8" different in length. With the table saw I can set up a stop and they'll all be identical.
thanks for all the advice

Bah, I ordered from them and they said 'no way' - only for established customers they say. I even made up a fake business name. Oh well, nothing I can do about it I guess.
