Blown Head Gasket, What is my truck worth now?
I have a 1995 Pickup DLX with a blown head gasket. I want to sell it because I upgraded to a 95 tacoma. I would like a ballpark idea of what it is worth.
160,000 miles
Manual Transmission
Body 7/10 just small scratches and dings, no rust
Interior 7/10
new high performance radiator
new cv axles
I want to know what it is worth as is (blown gasket and all) and what it would be worth if I rebuilt the engine
Thanks guys

You might want to say what engine and where you live these vehicles have a regional market.
It all depends just how bad someone thinks they need your truck??
Pictures would be a big help.
If you can rebuild the engine if you figure labor in depending on the engine you might break even.
Any where from scrap price to a few hundred more .

As wyoming9 says, truck prices are VERY regional. So get on Craigslist and see what they're being offered at in your neighborhood.
But with a blown head gasket? Sorry, not worth much. Your truck may have "new" half-shafts, but the rest of it is almost 20 years old. Whoever might buy it has to take a real chance that lots of other things are wrong with it. Plus, they need the skill to rebuild the motor. If you can find that person, you have very little negotiating position. For a few thousand more, they can get a truck they can test-drive.

That is what I was thinking. Looking on Craigslist in east idaho where I live people have trucks with 180,000 miles that are posted for 6,000. One had over 300,000 and the guy wanted 2,700 for it. Are these the prices they are selling for or just what people post hoping to get the best price.

I'd say those people are shooting a little bit high. More like 3500 and 2500 for those trucks out here in CO. People love their Toys out here too so prices can get steep, but I imagine it's fairly close to Idaho prices. CL is tough to get a read on what people ACTUALLY pay... There are people asking all sorts of high numbers out there.
To get over 3k you would need to have either a SUPER cherry body or have some rebuilt equipment. I got my 86 for 3k, and that's with an entire drivetrain (including LCE engine) with 10k miles on it, OME and rubber at 80%.
Now, to answer your question, I'd say around 1k-1200 for your truck as is. I agree with Wyo that if you do a rebuild you may break even. Good option might be to find a low mileage used engine and throw it in. I think you could get 2500-3k for your truck with that, and if you do the work yourself you should come out ahead.

Most people wont want to deal with the head gasket in the first place. They can probably get a truck with no issues for a reasonable price. Its not a question of how much it is worth but who is willing to take the chance on a truck with a blown gasket. New parts dont get you very far unless its a rebuilt motor. People jsut expect it to work.
I am guessing a little more than scrap with a blown gasket and in Georgia, $4000 with a fixed gasket.

As is probably 1,000 or less. When you buy something that doesn't run/drive there is no telling what all is wrong with it.
If you fix it, no more than 2,500 it's very suspicious to have something major fixed on a vehicle to turn around and sell it, ie motor rebuilt, trans rebuilt.
