blowing 80amp fuse?

blowing 80amp fuse?
so last night when i was snow wheeling (sorry no pics) that big 80 amp fuse under the hood blew and i need to know why it might of blown? also, after i had hot wired this fuse in order to get home my alternator wasnt charging my battery, is this related somehow?

Also just could be cause it got wet, once dried out might be fine. I'd throw another fuse in it and see what happens.

so i just had time to go look at it and i think i found my problem, the wire connecting to the alternator melted clean off, which i belive then shook around and bumped into a ground and then blew the fuse. gg me for putting in a 120 amp alternator and keeping the stock power wire ill try and get some pics of what happened later.
