Bilstein/Downey HD Combo

Has anyone ever used the Bilstein F4-B46-1469-HO rear shocks with the Downey 48290 HD coils? I have the Bils installed and need to change the coils. My concern is that the Bils are too short for an 1.5" lift coil. Any comments are appreciated. I Have a 2nd gen 4x4 runner. Thanks.

not directly relevent...

I ran OEM sized Bilstien HDs on a truck with a 1-2" lift Deaver leaf spring Gen1 4Runner.

The shocks installed had about 1" of droop

The truck would "buck" when the rear axle unloaded(off the ground)

It also (IMHO) adds extra stress to the shock (top out is bad - esp if top out also has to constrain the suspension...

I dont have the bilstien catalog handy to see what the specs of the shocks that Downey reccomends be used with their springs.. that will tell you more about what is and is not workable.

Im now running a longer (58?) Alcan/AOR Orbit eye (front eye only) spring and using 7100 series Bilstiens witha 10" stroke in a short body (remot res required)... much better

yea..I called Bilstein today and the rep couldn't tell me if they would be long enough for the Downey 1.5" lift coils..I know theres an install write up of the same combo but it doesn't give the Bils #. I also know the 5100's are longer but it's too late for those..

We have developed a set of rear coil springs that offer higher ground clearance and increase tire travel, without giving up a comfortable ride. This new coil set raises the vehicle 1. The springs have a larger diameter which is offset by their length to equal a stock spring rate. The coils are powder painted and include a longer stainless steel braided brake line, proportioning rod remounting bracket, ABS hose remounting bracket, and detailed installation instructions. We have also responded to numerous request for a heavier duty set of rear coils for load haulers, trailer towers, or those using the 20 gallon auxiliary tank. These new coils are 20% heavier duty, and give the same 1 of lift. Either set of coils use Doetsch-Tech #8250D or 4MV09-SL shocks (shocks not included).

I'll have to give Bilstein a call back as you suggest and I'll find out the length specs..so if they are the same as the doetsch specs (22.5" - 13.5") I should be okay to use the Downey HD's...thanks..

I'm running Downey HDs and the bils you've mentioned. I've had no problems. On a side note; the ride is absolutely perfect.

I have the same Billies/Downey HD coils for almost two to three years now and I do not have a problem and the ride is perfect. I have a little bit of nose down but it will be even out once the rear is loaded with heavy crap.
