Bigger fuel tank/Auxiliary tank options

I gotta 1990 4Runner 4wd w. swing arm spare and have been looking around for a way to upgrade my fuel carrying capacity of 14 gallons. That isn't much for an offroad vehicle and I'd like to up that a bit. Anybody have any ideas or suggestions? I've seen some good looking aux. tanks but they are all gravity fed and I guess that isn't legal here in California. Anybody know how to get around this problem? Also are there any larger replacement tanks to swap out the stock one with that will fit? Any input would be appreciated.

14 gallons @ 12 MPG = 168 mile range. I know what you mean.

Check out this link. It isn't a 4runner but, this guy did some really sweet mods to his Taco. Including a fuel cell from an Isuzu. Might give you some ideas. I am not sure about Cal. legal issues. Ya'll have so many regulations out there I am not sure how you can get anything done!!

why not just by a few 5gal gas cans and take 'em along with ya? seems like it would be a lot cheaper and easier

could just put them up on the roof rack, or go as far as making up some holding brackets at the back like spare tire rack kinda

Actually if you read his tech write up on it, he made sure it fits inside the departure angle. And it really didn't take up much more room than the spare tire that is originally mounted there. Yet, I would like to see some sort of a skid plate for protection sake.

Near the bottom of the page is a listing for aux fuel tanks. I'd get you the specific page but the work computer has some issues. I'm thinking of going with the one that mounts above the spare tire, and then finding another place for the spare.

After I get my motor back from the machine shop, I'm going to attempt to install secondary fuel tank underneath the truck bed, next to the factory fuel tank, where the exhaust runs through. I'd have to re-routing the exhaust. It may not be possible to place it in this location, we'll see. I think auxiliary fuel tank is a GREAT idea. Lets keep the ideas flowing!
