I adjusted my valves to the specs the manual said but my gas milage has gotten worse. About three of them needed to be adjusted so can anyone give me an answer as to why my milage changed and what can I do or use to ensure the motor is operating as efficient as possible. Is it better to be to tight or to loose if one was to make a mistake. Also wanted to know if timing or carb adjustment is neccessary after adjusting valves

I think its coincidence. And no, you just adjust your valves to adjust your valves, nothing tricky or fancy about that part.

I have noticed that the FSM method is horrible for adjusting the 22R/RE's valve clearance. Best results are achieved by aligning each cam lobe straight up and then adjusting the corresponding valves clearance.

The FSM's 'TDC do 4' and then '180 out do the other 4' is inaccurate because each cam lobe is not in the same position.

I agree with Joe. Also I have found it much easier to do the valve lash with the engine cold. intake .007 exhaust .011. practice makes perfect too. happy adjusting.
