I know you can test with a multi meter but is there any thing else that can be done to make sure its working correctly ?

Resistance measurements will pretty much establish whether the meter is good, but to test the wiring & make sure the signal is getting to the ecu, you can measure the voltage at the ecu terminals (with ignition on). See the MFI System - Troubleshooting chapter for specs. Use backprobe adapters on your multimeter probes if you have them; otherwise stick needles into the connectors and hold probes against those.
