Battery problem

My battery has died a few times on me and im not sure why. Heres the story

Basicaly it starts fine most of the time but occasionaly it wont. WHY???

Last saturday the truck sat all day, I get in and the battery is dead, I hook up the charger and it starts fine, I figure I left something on.

Sunday no problems at all. It starts fine, not even slow turning over.

Monday am its dead again. Hook up the charger and it starts fine. Leave work and its dead, jump it and go home. I took that battery out and put in the battery from another car. I also unplug the fuse for my amp. I figured maybe thats it.

No problems all week. I check out the wiring for the amp and see no problems. Put the fuse back in and the next day its dead again. I put the charger on it and it still wont start. Im thinking maybe this battery is just shot. Well its only 2 years old so I take it back and they test it and say its fine. Hmmmm

Go home put it in and it starts fine.

Why?

Sounds like you may have a drain. I got so tired of trying to track down my drain that I installed a battery cut-off switch like the red one on this page: http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/P...up?Ntt=cut+off. They also have them at Wal-Mart in the automotive section.

Sounds like a dead cell or two. Take the battery (or truck) to SChucks or Napa, and have them test it. They will be able to tell you if there are any issues with your battery.

You have a bad ground on your amp so it stays on and drains you battery. Seen it quite a few times. Best way to check is with a multi meter.

I'm with you Wabbit, Im unsure of how everyone came up with bad battery, two batteries did the same thing, and the problem only dissapeared when he pulled his amp fuse... If the amp is the only thing that changed and the problem went away, then there is the problem.

if it's not the ground, then check the remote wire. it could be wired directly to the positive cable or some other continuous 12v power source.

Ok Im more confused now than when I started.

I checked the ground, good
There is no power at the remote wire at the amp. [edit: with the key off]

This is also just an occasional problem so chances are I wasnt checking at the right time.

Anyway, about the remote wire.
It is ran from the radio fuse. The remote wire that comes out of the head unit had no power. Could this be my problem? But why only occasionaly?
