auto tranny shifting issues
I am new to this forum. I am having problems with my auto transmission in my 1990 pickup. It shifts from 1-2-3 very smooth no problems....then when it goes into overdrive it shifts a bit more rough. When I am driving down the highway it will randomly down shift into third. Then it will not go back into overdrive right away....then eventually goes back into overdrive extra rough. The fluid in the tranny is full but has no color to it and is very thin. Any ideas on what i should do or what the issue might be would be a huge help.

as a cheaper alternative and a better idea. Change your transmission filter and fluid. Only about 30$ rather that 200$ or more for the solenoids.
Its very easy to do and can be done in about 30 min or less.
Just make sure you wipe your pan down with a clean lint free cloth when u get it down. Make sure there are no shavings or other problems lurking

I'm having similar prob. on a 93 4runner V6. 1-2-3 no problem but getting into overdrive takes ~5 mins of initial driving. After that no issues. Have completely flushed tranny,(again thanks for the tread on that one). Does this sound like solinoid or possibly a vacuum issue?

93 4runner O/D shift...Clunk in front end
Ya I looked up the shift schedule and once its warm it's w/in shift range. So thanks for the answers.
I have replaced CV axels and upper/lower ball joints. Had a gnarly kluncking noise upon braking predominately on passinger side. Ball Joints needed it, but still have cluncking noise upon braking, (usually deminishes after a few stops and turns). Feels like I'm popping something into place like poppin your knuckles. Guy who did front end allignment noticed it, but didn't give diagnosis. Could this be idler arms? The computer didn't kick it off the allignment machine.
