ARB or E- locker, and ARB question

I'm half way saved up for the gears and locker. I want a selectable locker.
Does the ARb locker need constant air pressure to keep it un locked ore does it stay unlocked until you flip the switch that pumps a compressor to engauge the locker.I'd be fine buying a setup/third member and puting it in and not hooking up to air for a while...(till I got more money right?)
Would it be better to do an E-locker? Using the Tacoma/new 4Runner 8" thirds with modifactions of course... I don't know which one is more cost effective...
I just don't want to get gears only and not do lockers while I have the chance and I want a selectible locker, screw LSDs.
Any ideas?

stays unlocked until air is introduced, then it only uses a small burst to engage it. so no...you dont need air to keep it unlocked.

after its all said n done...elocker vs arb is about the same price. arb is pretty much plug n play...while the elocker requires grinding/tapping/wiring up relays n switches. it all depends what kinda work you want to do. cant go wrong with either or...

ARB requires a constant pressure to keep it locked. If anything ever happens to the compressor or the airline, it fails "safe" in the unlocked mode.

ARB locks and unlocks a lot faster than elocker, otherwise they are pretty much the same.

Smart move to go selectable while you're doing gears.

Do gears and locker at the same time and pay labor for setup once.

ARBs need constant pressure to stay engaged and the "safe" mode is unlocked.

You can buy a set up 3rd with a locker so you unbolt one, bolt in the new one.

We have complete 3rds w/ ARBs: http://www.wabfab.org/products/diffe...ferentials.htm

Kinda pointless...when you can get 4.88s or 5.29s and have a LOT better gearing.

The V6 third member will not fit in the 4cyl housing without work right, you have to use different shims right?

The V6 and 4cyl thirds are interchangeable in the axle housing. If you're using a V6 carrier in a 4cyl third you need different shims...
