Anyone use MT-85?

Our trucks call for a 90wt gear oil (80W-90 or 75W-90) in the manual transmission. Redline makes 3 flavors of manual transmission lube:

MT-90 (75W90 grade, 16 cSt viscosity)
MT-85 (75W85 grade, 12.5 cSt)
MTL (75W80 grade, 10.5 cSt)

MT-90 seems like the obvious choice since it is actually a 90wt oil. But has anyone tried the slightly thinner MT-85 stuff?

No disucssion about GL-4 vs. GL-5, please. We've beaten that sulfur horse to death already in other threads.

I doubt there is much difference. However, I use MT-90 and live in a colder climate than you and never had a problem. Since your in ATL, I would use the heavier stuff...MT-90.

Good input, thanks.

I accidentally ran a Valvoline MTF product once since it was supposedly rated for 75W90 applications. Once I finally dug up a product data sheet it turned out to be a 5W30 like MTL, so I dumped it. But it had operated totally fine until then.

im pretty sure it wouldn't be very noticeable unless you were in very extreme conditions

Put in some MT-85 a couple weeks ago. Shift quality is about the same as the Amsoil stuff. Happy with it so far.
