Anyone eliminate the Clutch Start Cancel button?

Has anybody removed the Clutch Start Cancel Botton, and connected the wires in the back to make it a permanent clutch start cancel? I hate having to push in the clutch to start the truck, and I would like to use that hole in the dash for my offroad light switch.

Ummmm - bad idea. What if you forget and leave it in gear? My '93 4runner has a blank opening down by the dimmer switch.

I think cars worked perfectly well without this kind of switch for say, 60-70 years or so. I never had any accidents with cars without a clutch cancel switch.

You can either short the connection at the switch or at the clutch pedal to eliminate the button.

I agree with tc. There are plenty of other spots you can mount your switch, even if not in a stock switch place. But I leave my truck in gear when parked and do not use the e-brake much unless I am on a hill. Although, I should stop doing that. Lots of extra damage can come if your vehicle is hit while parked in gear. Well, there was a see-saw huh?

Now I like that idea. Do you have any pics of this?

Yeah, I've already considered putting the light switch where the little coin holder thingy is. If the Clutch button doesn't go away, I think that's where I'll put it. Should be a perfect fit in either place.

You can simply unplug the clutch start cancel switch if you don't want that feature, no wires from it need connected. If on the other hand, you want to be able to start without depressing the clutch, simply unplug the clutch switch (it's on the clutch pedal) and connect those 2 wires together.

And clint eastwood is 100% correct - we managed to start vehicles safely for about 80 years without lockouts, as well as managed to stop safely without abs, and could leave a stop sign without tirespin (assuming we WANTED to) without traction control, and we cornered fine without active stability control, and we checked the air in our tires, and closed our doors (and managed to lock them too!) without readouts on the dash, and.... Sorry, got carried away there!

Point well taken, but I still think it's no big deal to disconnect it if you want to, which is what I meant with my post.

The previous owner on my 1st gen had it already wired so that it was always on clutch start cancel. I don't see anything wrong with it. While I was working under the dash one day I did see a piece of 10g. wire looping into itself on some sort of connection. I think that's the mod.

No no - I entirely agree! Taking the safeties off things is only inherently dangerous if the user is an idiot.
The world would be a whole lot safer without lawyers.
We should all go home and tear the tags off our mattresses and pillows too, just for therapy...

Cool, thanks for the pics. I'm definitely doing something like this myself now. Maybe I'll move the clutch cancel switch down there.

Just remove it.. As posted before, cars did not have them for years and years. You can just unplug it, take a scotch-lock connector and crip the wires togather. I removed mine after about a week and never "rear-ended" anyone. Most peopel will step on the clutch, then the brake when starting their truck.. If you drive a stick and don't do this.... Well, have you looked at these new automatic transmissions?? They may be best for you.

Oh.. and how the heck are you all???!!! (for the real old timers!)

Is it bad for the car in any way to use the switch instead of pressing in the clutch?
