Anybody know where I can get a battery clamp?

I am looking for one for the 89' 4runner. I ordered one off ebay, turned out to be the wrong size even though it said it will fit all 89-95 4runners/tacomas and toyota trucks.

I paid 25 shipped for it, does anyone know where I can score one for the same price or a little more? Do they sell them in auto parts stores or would I have luck at the dealerships?

so.. have you tried looking at an auto parts store or junk yard yet? I'm sure either a jk, dealer, or auto parts store should have something if you look. Maybe even search craigslist for someone parting out a rig.

I just threw mine away, damn, could have given it to you for free. The rubber coating was peeling off of it and it did not fit my new Odyssey battery, so I just tossed it.

I have an '89 4Runner. I made one for the new battery from extruded aluminum bar, C-channel, and angle. Pic below, I spent about 2 hours making the parts. You can cut aluminum on a chop saw with a carbide blade. It bolts together with stainless hardware, mostly because my welding skills are nil. Works great.

I think that I have one as well that i may not have tossed. I'll look. Someone can have it for the price of the shipping. Probably $5.00 or so.

My battery hold down is pretty similar to outlawmike's. Works better than stock, that's for sure.

As for you guys using bungee cords, I think that's a piss-poor idea. Call me safety consious, but I would rather not have a 60lb projectile flying at my face in an accident. Around here, they don't let us near the track with something like that either.

If you want to cheap out, go buy a ratchet strap, and ratchet around the battery, and around the bottom tray. Looks much better, and it's DAMN strong. My brother used to use one on his Volvo at the race tracks. They would laugh, then try to move the battery, and then pass him.

I used to have a bungee cord, and it didn't work well at all. My battery punched a hole in it's side and leaked a bunch of acid all over in that part of the engine compartment. Then I went to the junkyard and got a clamp, And that's worked great ever since, except you have to check it every once in awhile to make sure it's tight. I found that out the hard way when I was driving over an extremely windy road and the battery shifted into the powersteering pully, and broke the belt, and rubbed a hole in the side of the other battery.

Basically, just get one, and check it every once in awhile to make sure it's tight.
