I have a1990 4x4 pickup with the v6. How can I determine if the truck is equipped with anti lock brakes?

IIRC the sensor for that one is near the top of the rear dif, more towards the front. That'd prolly be the easiest way to find it, look for wiring leading to the rear somewhere, because what else would be electric back there that would be under the truck?

Isn't there an ABS light on the dash on all ABS equipped?

Slam on the brakes when traveling at a high rate of speed. If you get a grinding, pulsing feeling in the pedal, you have ABS.

I don't think trucks came with 4-wheel ABS until '98. But they had rear ABS starting in '89 or so. The sensor is on the top of rear differential near the mounting surface with the axle housing.

Also the ABS pump (if equipped) would be on the passenger side frame above the idler arm.

Did some not have a early type of system piggy backed off the power steering pump causes all kinds of excitement changing out the pump.

There will also be some different brake valves then normal on my 92 4 runner it sits on the right side one of those things out of mind till it breaks.

No the early systems never had lights.

Then some vehicles never received that option my 2000 Tacoma does not have them.

The 1994 FSM has a section for rear-wheel ABS, and another section for 4-wheel ABS, so '94 must have been about the crossover year. Mine vehicle has rear wheel ABS, which as has been noted, has a single sensor on the rear differential. The actuator is indeed powered from the PS pump and is on the passenger side of the engine compartment, down just above the idler arm. I did not have to do anything special with it when I replaced the PS pump a few years ago.

With either ABS, a yellow "antilock" light should come on for a few seconds when you turn the key on before starting the engine. On mine the light is in the lower left of the instrument cluster.

My 92 Has the valve but I have never seen the light come on.

Then it was a wabbit Special another thing that didn`t work.

Go to know there might be a bulb burned out.
