another rear window help topic
Done a lot of reading on these forums this past week. My problem seems to be opposite of everyone else's. Rear window goes up, but will not go down. Was working without issues previously. Will go down with direct power supplied to the motor. Blue-Black wire has good voltage when window switch is up. Blue Yellow wire has no power when switch is down. Fuse seems good and breaker is not tripped. Where should I go from here. It is my assumption that all the safety switches prevent the window from going up. Am I wrong, is there a switch that prevents the rear window from going down? Neith switch works to put rear window down, both work to put it up. It is an 86 Runner. Thanks for all and any help.

Damn that is odd. I had a similar problem in that the window would stop about .5" from being fully closed and then not go back down. The keyed switch would work though. I was thinking that you might want to pull the switch out of the console and clean it. Mine was full of old coffee and such and wasn't making good contact inside. I blew mine out with a spray can of WD-40.
That's just strange that neither of your switches work to bring the window down. You said you disconnected the harness going to the top and it still didn't work so that rules out the wiper switch. The window does go down with direct power to the motor.....
How are the connections at the swithes?
Have you traced the wires from the motor to the switches or run a continuity test on them?
edit. I just went back and reread your first post (I should have paid more attention to it the first time) and was wondering if you were doing anything out of the ordinary when the window stopped working.

In the process of following wires. Pulled switch on console this am and hit hit with a good dose of electronics cleaner-still nothing. Did continuity from down power wire from harness to motor and continuity was good...Is it too early to start drinking???

So continuity is good.... WTF? I actually can think of nothing else except being sure that all the contacts are clean and free of corrosion. I wonder if there is a little breaker or something on the motor or maybe an inline fuse? No forget that, if there was a busted fuse your continuity check would have come back negative.

Let me do some looking and see what I can find.

It might. I don't know for sure if there is a relay in there or not but I would assume there is. Do you have a schematic of the wiring? If not I'll try and find one online.

Junkers I do hace the schematic. Got pissed and hit the relays with a screwdriver. Window now works! Problem now is that the console down switch only works if the window is not all the way up? Didn't you have a similar problem like that? I did take the switch apart and cleaned the crap out of it. Thanks for all your input on this.

I did have that problem and it was a dirty switch and dirty contacts where the switch plugs into the wiring harness. When I say that switch was dirty I mean it was DIRTY. I probably used 1/4 of a can of WD-40 spraying into it until the liquid stopped coming out brown.
