Ok, before everyone tells me to use the search tool; I have, and I couldn't find what I was looking for...which is an easy to follow guide using somewhat lamen(sp?) terms. All the other threads I've found on the subject use terms that I have no idea what they mean.

So, onto where I am now: you can really see where I am now, what you may not be able to see is that I have already removed the c-clip and washer behind it. This is the point where I'm not sure what to do next.

just did this last night on my 90, what a pain in the azz. it sounded so easy, till ya cant slide the sob between the shock and stab bar area

Yeah, I have absolutely no idea what a gland nut is or where to find it.

OK so you are removing the cv to replace the boot? Unbolt the cv from the front axle flange( the 6 bolts on the inside end of the cv). REMOVE THE SHOCK, this will make the job 100% easier. You don't have to remove the top nut, just romve the bottom bolt and swing the shock out of the way. Pull the cv away from the axle flange(with the six bolt) and let the back drop down and slide it out. you don't have to remove any more bolts, the spindle(end of the cv with the splines on it) should move freely inside the hub and out it goes. reverse steps for installation and be sure not to damage the lip of the cv that butts up against the back of the bearing assembly(brake rotor and such). This is the inner sealing surface and is very touchy, a little dent or bend and the cv retaining snap ring will not seat if the cv is not TOTALLY in.

Oh yeah, while your at it install some manual hubs and you will have to do this A LOT LESS.

use my 2 jack method that someone hooked me up with on here and it takes like an hour!

A jack under th lower a arm is definatly handy for reinstall, good point t.

Sorry for bringing this thread back to life... but I am using the SEARCH feature and found this thread.

What's this 2 jack method you speak of? I did a search and didn't net out with anything.

Put a jack under the opposite rear frame from the CV you're changing, and another under the A arm of the one you're changing. Gives you a bit more clearance, and coupled with disconnecting the bottom of the shock, should be enough to slide it out without too much trouble.

When I did mine. I removed the bolt holding the front diff, and jacked up the diff. Had both mine CV replaced in under 4 hours.
