Another 3VZE rough \ low idle in gear only

I have a 95 v6 auto 4runner. In park or neutral it idles just fine. When I put it into gear the idle drops to around 500rpm and it is very rough. It also seems to miss \ stumble all the way upto about 1500rpm. I've had it about 7 months and have replaced the; spark plugs, plug wires, cap, rotor. I have also cleaned out the throttle body. The truck was running fine after I did all of this work, however just the other day this new behavior began. My guess is TPS but I'd like to hear from some people smarter than me first.

Thank you all in advance,

Cheers - Josh

Find all the answers you'll ever need...

I would guess TPS too.

haha yeah check that out. i'll make it easy on you and give you one thing that might be able to fix your problem. try turning the flathead screw on the top of your intake manifold. right hand side on the very top. about a .5 inch flathead screw that you turn while it's on. try adjusting it till it feels good. should be a little higher than 800 rpms. anything lowere gets a little rough

Thank you for the idea, I have adjusted the idle and it idles fine until I put it into gear. So I don't think that's the sollution. I've done a lot of searching and it seems like TPS is my best bet so far.

#5 plug wire was arching. Replace plug wire and it's good as new again. Thanks for the replies.

I looked under the hood in the dark and could see the spark against what I think is part of the EGR valve. It looks like there used to be a plastic piece that held the plug wires away from it. I think the contact with the hot metal melted the insulation exposing the wire.

I'm having identical problems, when you accelerate did your exhaust sound like it was some kind of air compressor to about 1500 rpm, mine does sounds like puffs of air are coming out of the exhaust, also my gas mileages has gone to none, 100 miles on 1 tank! Just got this 4runner two weeks ago, don't even have the tags on it. Please help!!

Ok, I HAD identical problems, last night I check the TPS, the O2 sensor the MAF, did a cylinder drop test and found no change when I pulled no. 3 wire, pulled the plug and was getting a good spark, put it back checked the fuel injector for said cylinder and it was fine. I was getting ready to take it to the dealer to have them look for a burnt valve, when my wife came out and tripped over the plug on the shop lights I had set up, (it was 1am by this point), then I saw a beautiful blue flashing light.....I guess with identical problems I should have checked the solution for that problem. no 3 was arching on the egr valve, same plastic piece was melted. Taped the melted wire, wire tied it away from the valve, and its running like brand new!! Thank God!!
