Has anyone used or heard of anyone using the aluminum clamps you use to attach a topper to a pick up truck. I'm talking about the ones that clamp under the bed rail and to the top. I'm looking to use them and just wanted to know if they have any known issues.

Why? You loose the bolts?

Just make sure you have the bolt for the sensor in, other than that youll need to have the lip on the body for the clamp

what would the advantage be to clamps over the bolts that come in it?

easier to take it on and off is the reason I wanted to use them. I would still use the bolts that go into the cab but not the ones on the bed rails.

so what about your interior panels...... you just gonna cut openings for the clamps in them? In all honesty I don't see that you'll save much time using clamps over the bolts.......
But then again nothing is for certain until it's put to the test!


BTW if you are gonna hack up your panels, i'd be delighted to swap mine for yours if they're in good shape! that way the world doesn't lose one more irreplaceable yota part!

x2^^ on what he said, unless you gut your interior panels, there is no provision on the inside of a 4runner toake it work.
You would still need to run the bolts that attach it to the cab .
I see no 'advantage' whatsoever by trying to use canopy clamps, you are still gonna need to break out a wrench.

1/4" impact take those 10 bolts out in 30 seconds.

Using clamps is a poor substitute.

Biggest issue is no way to seal cab to top without bolts.

Thanks for the input guys. In post 7 I said I would still use the bolts for the cab. Also at this point while I put my truck back together I do not have the rear panels installed and don't think I'm going to use them anyway. I'm thinking of using 1/4" ply wood wrapped in black neoprene for the panels and plan on using a soft topper once I save up a little more money.

in my last 4runner i only used 4 of the bolts for the top, was really east to take off :-)

if youre gonna do this just cut and reconnect the wires that go to the safety switch. mine broke and i fixed that in a total of about 2 minutes lol plus i can roll my window up WITHOUT my top now not that i ever would, i enjoy having the window lol
