Alternator wiring help!

i got my new alternator today for my 3.0 and i was wondering if i had the right one or not. I got the one for the 3.0 so it should be right but ya never know. I was wondering if any of yall could tell me what was the shape of the plug on the back of ur alternator. the plug on the back of my alternator is kinda a flat oval shaped thing. i was wondering because i saw a picture of an alternator for the 3.0 over on 4x4wire and the plug was a perfect cirlcle. any of yall know wut the plug shape is supposed to be?? thanks

My 88 has the round plug with 3 prongs. I think that's the 60 amp version and was used from 85 to 91 (2.4L 4cyl). I think the V6 used the same alternator, but with the serpentine belt instead of the V-belt.

Well every one that I've seen has a round plug. But I haven't looked at very many, so take that with a grain of salt.

If you have a strange plug, there's a possibility someone swapped the alternator once before with an odd-ball replacement and changed the plug to make it fit. You might check the old alternator's part number and see if it really belonged on your vehicle.

turns out my the alternator that i bought is the right one. i replaced them today. how come some alternators on the 3.0 have the cirlce plug and some of them have an oval plug? im assuming they made two different ones because the thread on 4x4wire showed a picture of the guys alternator from a 3.0 and the plug was circle. thanks for the help.
