Alright once again, but for clarification

I am getting a cat back exhaust for the runner.

I am going to have have the shop use 2.25" pipe.

Mufflers: God forbid i ask about mufflers. but, I am thinking of the 40 series delta flow or a magnaflow 3 chamber. opinions. I have searched but many didn't give a definitive answer or opinion.

Thanks.

I like the 3-chamber Flowmaster (50-series) and the Delta-Flow version which is supposed to help reduce resonance in full bodied vehicles:

I had a buddy use a 40-series in his FJ60 and said it was quite loud inside on the highway.

Don't mind i didn't make it up the hill, but you can hear what it sounds like on a 3.0

Alex,

In my '89 Runner I put on the Downey headers and ran 2 1/2" back to a Magnaflow cat then out into a Magnaflow #12577, Oval, 5x11", 2 1/2 in/out, offset.

It was too damn loud on the trail with the top off and in town I felt like a 16 year old kid driving a Honda. The cabin resonance in the Runner was terrible.

I yanked it out and went with a 70 series Flowmaster. That is their big block series muffler that advertises lowest cabin resonance. I really like it, and I got back a little low end torque. It has a good rumble to it, but I don't feel 20 years younger and want to turn my hat sideways.

I still have the Magnaflow, if you want it....

mmhmm. I am kinda looking for a better sound but not overly loud. the 50 series delta flow i guess is pretty quiet. might be worth a shot. thanks for the offer though.

got the exhaust installed today. 50 series Delta flow with 2.25" pipe from the cat back. sounds great. haven't really noticed much performance when i drove it for a little bit, but that wasn't really a good test. very mellow sound with a good low tone. you can barely here it inside the cab unless you really romp on it. I would highly recommend this muffler for a stock replacement or if you want a good sound without it being loud or having the annoying tinny, sound.

I will try and get a sound clip here in the next couple of days.

Have a little interference with the vehicle height sensor at full compression . I will be shimming that a little bit rearwards to eliminate this problem. otherwise, it is very good.
