Aisin Manual Hub Gasket or no Gasket

I got some 2nd hand Aisin Hubs a little while back, ive pulled them all apart and cleaned them. Im just about to re-grease them and put them back together and I've noticed that there was only a gasket in one of the hubs. The other one didnt seem to have one. Are they supposed to have gaskets (just under the 6 bolts that screw the face plate on)

All the writeups ive read only seem to mention buying a new gasket for between the actual hub and the wheel of the car.

Maybe I missed something?

Would the Toyota dealer have these inside hub gaskets?

ther should be a gasket where it mounts to the hub and behind the black faceplate the dial mounts in.you can use just black rtv it needs to be there to keep water out of your wheel bearings.

there is indeed gaskets from the dealership; might take a day or two to get in though if they don't have them in stock

Dial Cover to Hub Body gasket - p/n 43531-60010 (pictured bottom left)
Hub Body to Wheel Hub gasket - p/n 43422-60010 (pictured bottom right)

if you're rebuilding them, you can also replace the O-ring in the dial; p/n 43532-60010 (pictured top middle)

remember; you need two of each; one for each side. costs about $18 for all of them

I'd still rather just get the gaskets...cleaner and that's what Toyota decided was best.

quick question about gaskets hope its not off topic but do they contain a glue or something that helps them seal or do they just soak up oil till they seal?black paper gaskets dont look like they have anything on them but the new blue ones look like they are impregnated with something.

I bet you don't use differential gaskets either, do you

sure you CAN get away without using the gaskets, and if it's just a trail rig that chances are you'll just have to take the stuff back apart in a few months, or weeks, then sure I'd just use RTV as well

BUT, if it were a daily driver that you rely on to keep you going, and something you wont be digging into and taking apart but maybe once every year to repack the bearings, then I'd put my money on some gaskets... Toyota didn't put gaskets on them from the factory just to charge an extra $18 on the cost of the truck; they're there for a reason

Ok, so I finally got around to doing this and my useless torque wrench broke the gold bolt. 8(
Anyway, just wondering about removing the old gasket from the hub. Looks like its the original one that hasnt been changed in 16 years. Its pretty much fused into place. Going to be a nightmare to remove it completely or is it not that neccessary? I have a new one to put on, but its really going to take me ages to chisel and scrape the old one off. Is it worth it or will it seal out the water ok with the old one still there.

The last time someone told me a gasket was "7 or 8 bucks" I got it from the dealer for about $50.

Well I got all 4 of these gaskets for about 7 or 8 bucks canadian so if they try and charge you 50 US then you know something is wrong.

yes you need to remove the old gasket before installing the new one.
