guys with air horns, where did you mount them? i got one for my 88 x-cab and need some inspiration

Mine are under the truck, they are surprisingly loud there. You can just bearly see them here:



I scared the piss out of myself today when I accidently layed my arm on the horn botton.

if your trying to go underhood the only spot (well if they were large) would be behind the drivers headlight area, i had a twin set up in that area. if not then get an old CB whip magnet and stick them somewhere under your rig.

I used the relay that came with the kit and grounded to the body. Activation is by the stock horn button. BTW the stock horn is still connected up too.

i have a three horn one, and my rear crossmember is stripped do you thing it will be loud enough back there?

Yeah, angle it towards the ground and the sound bounces nicely off the road surface. I had a ricer the other day cut me off, after blowning the horns he jumped as far away from me as he could get.

I don't know, are any horns water proof? Actually my original horn quit working while my truck was under warranty (only about a year old) I think it was because I washed the truck so much it got wet all the time behind the grill. The dealer replaced it with what must have been a Corolla horn because it just made a little beeeeep. Everytime I honked it my wife would say that's not a truck horn, I don't hear that anymore LOL.

Dunno..I would think maybe water resistant but not a good idea to completely submerge....

Yeah, I'm not a fan of deep water crossings. But my frame is about 24" off the ground and they are well above the frame. Actually the airpump part is almost to the top of the gas tank. If I get that deep I'll have more worries than the $30 horn.

I've got mine crammed between the passenger side firewall and fusebox. Got the big boss dual from oriellys and some cheap harbor freight duals hooked up via a tube. When they flick me off using the one on the steering wheel I bump it up a notch to my quad horn set up

I mounted my train horn in the same spot...

It's so loud it could go anywhere, but I also think it carries better being under the truck. When I hit it people hear it over a mile away.





I just drilled holes through the bed and mounted it with stainless steel bolts.

eBay man, their all over it... their not actually real locamotive horns; if you could get ahold of those, then OMG!!! I had a set of genuine Mac truck horns under the back bumper of my Mustang... now that turned some heads, lol.

Yeah I live 5 miles from the train tracks but I can hear the train horns.

I live maybe 1 1/4 mile from the tracks; pass over them on my way to work every day, and frequently catch the train and have to wait... it's fun though; every time I get stuck waiting, I mess with the train engineer; every time he blows the horn, I honk mine, lol. He goes BAAAH BAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH... and I go, beep beeeeeeeepppp... I know they hear it; they always have the window open, and I've even had a few laugh at me for doing it as they ride by, lol. It's gunna be fun when I setup my airhorns! They'll be like "wtf?"

...matter of fact, I here one now... from inside my house... I hear the roar of it rolling...

I used to have my steering wheel horn switch wired to a 2 pole toggle switch so I could flip between my regular weak factory horn and my junkyard found airhorns. The dual horns I squeezed in between the grill and the radiator support next to the headlight on the driver side ('88 p/u at the time), I had to mount the horns individually, instead of together on one bracket, and put the pump next to the airbox, but it all fit neat and tidy.

Are you guys running just the pump or an air tank?

Oh yeah, hornblasters.com, those guys are based right here in Fl; truth be told that's when I really found out about real air horns on cars. I used to live up in Jacksonville Fl, and I saw a Ford Expedition with the hornblaster.com sticker across the front windsheild. I had to ask... well he blew the horn, and I was like "I GOTTA HAVE ONE OF THOSE!!!". So I sacrificed 3/4 of the trunk space in my 2000 Mustang for the tank and compressor, and mounted the horns under the bumper... really wish I had some pics.
