Air conditioner

After my recent ac add on on my 91 I have found out that there are many brackets fitting angles plugs etc etc that are different the only way would be to match them and try, but from an 84 to 89 I'm gonna say good luck. Even if some of it works I went through 5 compressors from the yard and they were all worn and needed a clutch ended up buying a new compressor. And these compressors were out of 88 to 90's. Get ready for a can of worms.

Don't know what your local rates are, yet problem less then $200. Yet that doesn't include fixing the leak in the first place.

Testing the a/c clutch shouldn't be an issue, as long as the engine isn't running. Turning the compressor with no refrigerant wouldn't be good for the compressor.

Dont run it without the freon, i beleve in a liquid state it lubricates the compressor. mine got impaled by a tree branch and i ripped the whole system out and replaced the condenser with radiator armor, but its alot hotter on ur side of the mountains, the ac out of the 84 maybe has simalar cooling coils & condenser, but the aluminum hard lines are probably different and are unforgiving for sure-if you paying bottom dollar try it, otherwise find the 89 3rd gen ac and save. this past weekend got you thinkin AC it was stupid hot, good luck!

What actually lubricates the compressor is oil, not refrigerant. The reason your a/c won't kick on is because of the low pressure switched being tripped. If you try to bypass it and compress air it will break. Also you cannot just add refrigerant the system must be put on a vacuum. I would recommend replacing the metering device, also if it just leaked out refrigerant you have to find a leak very hard to do unless you have access to the right equipment. After all that theres no guarantee that your compressor will last. It also needs to be charged properly and made sure the right amount of oil is in it.
