Ahhh 3.0 V6 engine troubles!!

Today i was driving my 92 3.0 V6 pickup and saw my engine smoking so i stopped and popped the hood and it was pissing out coolant out of the back of the engine. there was oil mixed in the coolant on the ground for sure, but checked the dipstick and the oil looks clean. When it cooled down for a while i filled it back up with water, loosened the rad cap a bit and drove it home and it seemed OK. What could this be? Head gasket? Cracked block? I know of someone selling the same engine with 160 km on it for $800, would it be easiest just to engine swap? I'm so broke right now this sucks

could be the little upside-down "U"-shaped hose on the back middle of the motor....known to leak.

see this current thread------>>>>> https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...rewall-238387/

^^^agreed; either a hose or you've popped a freeze plug.

Do you have the optional oil cooler? If so, could be the line leading to it, also. (driver side, directly back from the oil filter on the back end of the engine...right under rearmost exhaust port.

Its hard to tell but i think it was pissing out of the passenger side. I dont know anything about the freeze plug really...but would the coolant be oily on the ground if i had popped that? i REALLY hope this isnt a cracked block/head issue!

well.....here's my 4 cents

fill it up with water or coolant....run it....watch it....see what's happening. I had to use a VERY small video camera to find a leak on my 22re.....

so find the problem 1st.

you can always run a compression test to check the heads.

No oil in the water gally of an engine unless you have MAJOR issues! It's most likely that little u-shaped hose. TAKE OFF THE HOOD (4 bolts, 5 minutes) to access it; it'll make the job TONS easier --you'll have both light & unlimited (sort of) access!

The oil isn't necessarily from the leaking hose, could be just residue washed off the back of the engine. A bad cam seal on the back of the heads is a common leak area, right by that little u-shaped hose.

There's bigger hoses back there, too, including one that goes to/thru the throttle body, and the heater hoses. Many points that could be leaking. But, you definitely want to get it fixed NOW before you DO have a head gasket issue!!
