Hey, so I know there are some threads already on this topic, but they didn't really answer my question.

I want to do the swap to the supra AFM on my 1994 truck [22RE]. I bought a good AFM from, I believe, a 1983 supra. the part number is 22250 43150. the threads i was looking at listed their part number as #22250 43110.

the one i have looks exactly like the #22250 43110 and the plug is identical to the one currently on my truck.

so my question; can someone tell me if the one i have, #22250 43150 will work or not?

I just did this on my 87 22re. I read a lot beforehand, and came to the conclusion that if I want it to be plug and play I need to use the 43110. I found one online through car-part.com for $38 shipped. From what I understand, you'll need to use the internal board on your original AFM to make the 43150 work. A few guys have done it that way with success, I just didn't want mess with it.

damn! so i would have to swap out the internal electronics?

i don't want to do that. guess it's back to craigslist. i'll be sure to ask about the part number first.

Call the wrecking yards listed to verify the Toyota part number.

just looked at the website. some of them are really expensive. i think i'll call some of the yards that don't have prices listed to see if i can get it cheap.

Not too many '82s around, I'm building the other version as a spare.

dfarr67: so you have the same one as i do? are you swapping out the electronics between the two?

i think i'm gonna find the correct one to use cause i need to be able to drive my truck regularly.

that's a good idea to have a spare set up. maybe i'll do the same with my extra parts.

You can also use an AFM from a mid eighties cresida with a 5MGE engine, its the same part number 22250 43110, i have one on my 86 4Runner and it was plug and play.

I think those were on the 83 Cressida with a 5mge.

I already sourced an 82 which is on the vehicle- I'm building a spare. I think it's pretty common now to build them- I believe there is a guy on here that will.

yeah, I think I read that somewhere on here. I altered my ad I posted looking for one here where I live to include the Cressida. Hopefully, I can find one on the cheap.

Quick question: Once I swap over to the new AFM I assume I will need to upgrade the pipe/hoses from it to the throttle body, no? Where can I find the appropriate hoses and pipe to go from the 3" AFM down to the 2" throttle body? I have a K&N filter too, so I think I will have to buy a different one to fit the larger opening on the new AFM.

Quick question #2: I just noticed that my bracket holding my AFM to the truck broke. The mount for the air cleaner is really flimsy and the bouncing of the truck when I'm driving caused the bracket to break. Have you or anyone else come up with a good solution for a strong bracket that isn't wobbly and flimsy? I'm thinking about fabricating my own, or having someone do it for me with three bolt points instead of the current one. One just isn't enough for the weight of the AFM and filter.

I used a filter adapter from O'Reilly to mount a 3" filter. I have a reducer from the AFM to the stock intake tube for now. I did that just to make sure the AFM was operating properly. I am going to swap my battery to the drivers side and the intake to the passengers side. For that, I have ordered a 3" silicone elbow and I'll use an adapter to fit the throttle body. I will post some pics in my build thread when it's finished (link in sig).

I found my silicone hoses and adapters on Amazon.

Also, if you are going to use a K&N filter, it's a good idea to get a drycharger for it too. They really cut down the fine dust that likes to get through the filter.

The throttle body inlet on our 22re`s is 2 1/2'', and when i did my AFM swap i bought a silicone elbow that was 2 1/2 '' on one side and 3'' on the other, and i also bought three feet of thin wall aluminum tubing and ran that from the throttle body over to the new AFM and hooked it up, and put a cone filter on the inlet side of the AFM. Eventually i will do the AFM and battery swap, but for right now it works just fine.

I just kept the stock plastic tubing that goes from the throttle body to the AFM, and used a 2.5" to 3" silicone adapter for the '82 supra AFM, and have a spectre 3" cone filter on it. Just installed today, took it for a test drive, works like a charm. I am also working on doing the airbox/battery swap as the others have mentioned. I experienced a noticeable gain in performance just by doing the afm only. I think after I swap the airbox and battery it will be even better. We'll see how the gas mileage goes.
