I've done LOTS of searching and havent been able to find an answer for this so i'm starting a new thread.

I have a 1989 toyota pickup with a 22re in it, I bought some seafoam added half a tank to the gas and i want to add the rest to the intake.

I searched and found that most people suck it into the intake through the pcv valve hose or the brake booster hose. I have no knowledge of the brake booster, or its location so i decided i would try the pcv valve. After finally finding it i warmed up my truck and was about to add it to the intake but when i pulled the pcv valve the truck died.

My question is what am i doing wrong? and second which end of the pcv valve hose to i pull off the end connected to the valve cover or the end that connects to the intake?

When you pulled the hose off of the PCV valve you created a vacuum leak and the engine died due to that. The best way is through the brake booster hose.

On the fire wall right in front of the driver is the brake assembly and booster (big black round thing) on the front of that is a hose. Start the truck and pull that hose and put your finger on it to keep vacuum. What I did at this point was to tilt the bottle of SF and ease my finger off the end of the hose until there was an opening. Pour the SF into that opening SLOWLY. You'll need someone to keep the rpms of the engine up while you do this or it will die. Once that half bottle of SF is in there put the hose back on the booster and shut the truck off. Let it sit (I think it's 20 minutes on the instructions on the bottle) and then fire it up.

Be prepared for lots and lots of smoke. By lots and lots I mean enough to kill insects for several blocks.

I used the hose that runs to the charcoal cannister when I did my '85. It is easy hose to get to, it is long and a smaller dia. so it is easier to control the flow of the cleaner into it.

Indeed! I did my first shot of this two years ago and we had almost an entire block of white smoke. Good thing was there were no skeeters for a week after that. Bad thing was the fire department arrived due to someone calling in a fire........ Damn that was a LOT of smoke.

Thanks so much guys, i did it through my brake booster line today. It worked perfectly, and my idle is smoother than ever, now i just need to adjust those valves...

Call me weird (why not? I do. )
I'd rather spray a cleaner up through the throat of the throttle body and let it set so it can soak in and loosen things up instead of putting something in through a vacuum line which gets sucked in and burned off and hopefully drags some stuff off the runners with it.

And for the record, I've done Seafoam through a vacuum hose and didn't "Sea" any change unless you want to call the smoke "foam"- was a waste of 10 dollars, in my opinion. Sprayed some 5 dollar generic TB cleaner up through the TB and let it set before starting the engine it ran a lot smoother, once it started.

So you just soaked the inside of the intake plenum and let it sit for a while?

Sprayed it a few times, let it soak a few minutes, sprayed again, let it soak, started the beast and 'blew' out the gunk until the exhaust wasn't billowing, then repeated a couple more times until the can was empty. You just don't want to spray too much in at time, between starts, 'cause you don't want it sitting on the rings too long (there's always an open intake valve).
...And if I'd have had one, I would've bottle brushed it too.

i was able to do it on the pvc valve hose on both a 22re and 3vze using my thumb to partially cover the hose while pouring the seafoam in, kept just enough vacuum to run the engines

Hm.. I just took the brake booster off and stuck it in the can. Worked fine, truck didn't stall until a lot got in the engine which was the point wasn't it? Let it sit start it up and watch it smoke.

Would you shampoo your hair while the shower head is still spraying water on it, rinsing the shampoo off? ... or would you apply the shampoo first, then rinse it off later?

Seems like that bottle of TB cleaner is a good way to fry your oxygen sensors by blowing all that gunk through it
