this is what im doing im trying to slide the sleeve and fork towards the passenger side to lock it in 4wd and clamp it and put manual hubs on, well its stuck about half way,

ALSO can someone check these links out and tell me which one is right, there doing the same thing, but ones locking the fork to the passenger side and one to the driver side but they both say there locking it in 4wd?????

compare the pics of the sleeve and youll see one ssays its in 4wd and the sleeve is toward the diff,and the other link says its in 4wd and the sleeves away from the diff, it make sense to have the sleeve over the diff gear to lock it in 4wd so im leaning towards the yota tech thread, but then that means kody on yotatech lock his in 2wd.

Get a set of manual hubs and lock the actuator in place. (search to see how, i like the hose clamp method)

i have the hubs and im trying to lock it in place,thats the problem , which direction do i lock it, towards the diff or away. the 2 links are doing the same thing, but they clamp it at opposite of eachother so im trying to figure out if its locked when the fork is over the diff gear or away like kody from yotatech did.

Try putting it on a jack and just mess around with it untill it locks.

I believe when I did mine the 4x4wire article is what gave me the idea. It looks right to me.

thanks, thats what i thought, sucks for the guy on yotatech who locked his in 2wd! anyway now i just have to figure out why the sleeve is getting stuck, its almost like it wont go over the diff gears or something(thats why my ADD wasnt engaging in 4wd, because it gets stuck halfway and wont go in the diff) any ideas why or ways to pllay around with it to get it to slide all the way over?

hehe.. yeah I wonder if he has figured it out yet. I'm not sure what your sleeve would be getting stuck on. I would just rotate the sleeve around, play with the passenger side axle shaft while trying to slide it into the diff.. not really sure what the hang up could be.

I've done this before.
Take the actuator off. Take a look as to where the fork is positioned.
The sleeve that slides back and forth, engages the 4wd. It just completes the driveshaft.
Figure out where the sleeve needs to be and move the actuator/fork accordingly.
It's a vacuum diaphragm, it's a little tricky to move. I used RTV in the vacuum fittings on the actuator to lock it out. Then I capped them with vacuum cap or shrink wrap.
It's not a difficult system, the sleeve moves left and right to complete the driveline to the one side, the sleeve is moved by the fork, the fork is moved by the diaphragm (round thingy).

Im trying to move the sleeve towards the diff to complete the driveshaft like you said, when i try to slide it towards the diff it catches or something after about 1/4 or 3/8 from 2wd, so it wont go all the way into 4wd, so i guess i need to figure out what its cathing on, so i can slide it all the way to the diff, i got the fork slid to the right spot now just need to figure the sleeve. thanks

My guess is it's getting stuck b/c the gears/ splines aren't lined up...

huh, so the sleeve has splines on the inside? if so that would make sense, if not how do i go about lineing (?) up the splines+gears? thanks everyone for the help, might get my 4wd working after all.

maybe you should have done this research before taring into your truck.. try lining the splines up by turning the long tube axle while trying to slide the sleeve over.

The sleeve isn't supposed to go all the way towards the diff. 4wd is actuated just off center to the one side. Yes there are splines on the sleeve to engine both pieces of driveshaft.
Like yotaman said above, try rotating one side to get the sleeve splines to line up.

If you can't move the truck, grab the front shaft... But it'll only work if it's in 2H.


My guess is the trucks on the ground fellas...
