Acceleration Problem

Acceleration Problem
Ok I tried this before and i dont think it worked.....I am new here. Hi everyone!
Anyway, I have a 90 toyota pickup. 5 speed, 4WD. Recently I am having accelerating problems. I was driving and all of a sudden my truck didnt want to accelerate. It happens when I push on the gas to give it some juice....if I push slowly it slowly accelerates and gets up to speed but if I give it any juice it sputters and wants to give out. When I start it up...it revs high then goes back t normal and if I press on the gas pedal it sputters and wants to die. The other day I tried holding down the gas pedal while in idle and it didnt die.....but I heard a pop noise from the front end. It almost dies but doesnt. I just did new wires, plugs, cap, rotor....all that. Any suggestions as to where I should go from here would be appreciated. I am leaning towards fuel pump or 02 sensor? I am not dumb when it comes to vehicles but I am not an expert....so any advice would be awesome!! Thank so much in advance.

My new to me 1993 V6 truck did the same thing one day last month. It has not done that again. My searches on here showed that there could be two or three prime causes of this behavior.
The first two are simple ones: change the fuel filter as already mentioned, and change the air filter.
The third is the TPS (throttle position sensor). There are lots of posts on this issue that will come up by searching for "TPS testing" or "TPS problem". Checking the TPS has some tricky parts to it and you need some basic electronics know-how.
My issue may have been the air filter. The truck came with a K&N that was not cleaned in a few years by the guy I bought the truck from last fall. I put in a Fram and it was like I had just stuck a V8 into the truck. Completely shocking power from the old dog. I still need to do the fuel filter when the clutch is done since the tranny will be out of the way at that time.
Once the filters and the clutch are removed from the equation that will just leave the TPS as a source for any future acceleration issues that are not consistant. Well then there is the MAF sensor, and those O2 sensors, and the 14 year old valves, and the EGR gunk in the throttle body, and......all the other little things that a 14 year old truck throws up in your face just when you think you have it dailed in.

Ok I will try the fuel filter and went and bought one. Its just a PITA to get to the filter cause as I was told its in the tank so I have to remove the dang thing to get to it . Also, someone told me to try some fuel injector cleaner so I am doing that right now but I dont think that is the problem. I started her up and barely pressed the gas and she revs up but if I put the pedal to the medal she just sputters...but doesnt die. As soon as I let off...she idles just fine again. What would be the bang noise I hear every once in a while in the front while holding down the gas pedal??
What happens when an 02 sensor is out?? I heard the person that had it before me had a constant 02 sensor problem......what symptoms could a bad 02 cause?

Just wanted to add, the pisser of all this is that I ws just getting ready to sell the darn thing!!!! I bought a new rig and put for sale sign in this one and then BOOM this happens that same day!!!! So I am also not looking to spend too much money on this dang thing........anyway. Thats why I am frustrated and looking for help....or options. So again thanks to all of you!!

AWESOME! I was hoping it didnt entail dropping the tank.
I want to keep on subject...but on side note...what if I have to get into replacing my fuel filter? What is easiest? Dropping the tank or...I have heard that removing the truck bed can be easier cause it's only 4 bolts? Is that true??? Just to get to the tank?

I also wanted to add, not sure if this is relevant but I drove it again yesterday just to see if I could get anymore clues and I couldnt get the truck to go over 20-25 MPH. It just wouldnt go......if I push in the clutch it gets power back and if I down shift it scoots more but it wont take any gas.....

There are two filters on the truck. One is a pre filter screen on the pump uptake in the tank, and then there is the real fuel filter on the driver side of the engine. The engine one is the one you need to change first. If the conditions stay the same then start thinking about the pump or the pressure regulator near the engine.
You might have to sell this one "as is."

Iam going to try and see what I can do if its just little stuff and if that doesn work then I will sell "as is" I am about to do that......but I can get more if its fixed. Its a nice rig. Its a 90 with only 100,000 miles, lift, 33's....all maintenance...top shape besides this...... and has nver had problems until this so if its a quick easy fix id like to atleast try. If not then oh well......My first thought was the pump.....I hope its not that cause that gets spendy!

I had these same symptoms before I put my headers and dual exhaust system in. My mechanic friends told me it was likely to be a clogged catalytic converter. After installing a completely new system with dual cats and dual flowmaster mufflers, I haven't had that problem since. A clogged catalytic converter is my bet.

You mentioned you just replaced the plug wires? I had an S-10 that did this exact same thing, dealer replaced the fuel pump and a bunch of other stuff, and it turned out to be a bad plug wire.
I would double check those are good wires.
