a/c amplifier bad, low charge, low engine idle speed?
... and the engine shouldn't rev up very much above stock idle speed with the a/c on: it should idle mostly the same whether the a/c is on or off.

There is a cut-off under the dash that prevents the A/C from working at too low rpm. But you probably just need to adjust the Air Idle Control (looks like a plastic hexhead bolt mount on the pax side fender well). You can adjust the idle speed that kicks it up when the A/C comes on. I run mine @ 1100. That keeps your regular idle (800 +/- 50) normal.

Thanks for the reply. engine idles at 700 with the ac on it stays at 700 cause the compressor wont kick on. if I rev up to 1000 then the compressor kicks in. I will try and find the AIR IDLE CONTROL and see if that does it.. THANKS TNRabbit...... My other truck does the same thing perhaps I can fix that one to.

If I had to guess I'd say either the AIC is set too low or you're slightly low on R12/R134a(whichever one you're using). My 2004 Chevy truck won't engage the A/C if it's too hot out unless I set it on low and bring the idle up. If I set it on high at idle it will never get cold. It will freeze you out once you get going though.

Mine doesnt work either, it will if I rev the engine up and when I let off the gas the engine will want to die and idle at like 400 rpm... its pretty gay I dunno whats wrong with it, not to mention my AC pump has been making a metallic rubbing noise so I cut the belt to it. Anyone got any ideas? Also sometimes my idle drops down to like 400 rpm and stays there...

I cannot find the hex screw. I have been looking and still dunno where it is..... I removed the glove box and pasanger side kick cover. Where exactly is it? I am idling at around 500 RPM. and it is constant with the ac on or off. If I rev the engine to 1000 rpm and kick on the AC the idle drops to 800 and goes back to 1000 when I turn off the AC. WHere is it?

Fixed it!!!

Found pot at top of PC board on AC housing behind glove box. Turned pot so compressor would kick on. Adjusted idle after getting up to temp by turning 2.5mm allen screw on throttle linkage stop. I now idle at 800 rpm adjusted timming to 10 deg btdc according to label, and AC comes on at idle. Now if this piece of motor woul only have any horse power all would be good. Now I want to just pull it all out and trash it. I want to swapp now with a VS2 engine.

Who wants a rebuilt 3VZE? Its yours... Can pull out in 2 hours. come get it.

Just kidding I will try it for a while and see what happens as I break her in.

Thanks for the replies.....

lol I'll pass on the rebuilt 3VZE. Lemme know when you want to give away something with a bit more power.
