AC idle up mechanism- on board air

I've nearly fit got my York to fit, and I'm trying to figure out a clever way to have the engine idle up or maintain its idle speed despite the extra load of the belt driven compressor.

There's a wire with a grey plug on the end which hangs down under the intake manifold. I'm wondering if that has anything to do with the AC.

Just let it ride. If it bogs down, turn on your AC

I don't have AC, but the wiring (might) be there.

Good point. Well there is a plastic screw on the engine side of the throttle body. If you turn the ac switch ON and adjust that screw, you should be able to adjust the ac on idle speed.

Or tap in a relay to the powersteering idle up wire. Think that'd work too (though it is just speculation).

That could be a possibility.

Ideally, the engine idle goes up to ~2000 rpm if I can swing it. I was thinking of buying the bracket and linkage used to control the throttle for cruise control (allows multiple cabled to control the throttle), then attaching a servo from a model plane which when activated, would open up the throttle a bit.

or, you could just change the idle speed. im not entirely sure how to do it, but i know that it is at the end of the throttle cable

You could install a hand-throttle with a bicycle shifter (think old skool friction thumbshifters not the clicky indexed ones) and attach it to your throttle body at the unused cruise-control spot. Or wire it to the top of the gas pedal.

I've realized that you need the throttle linkages from a truck with cruise control.

I used an electric vacumm selenoid to up my idle. Worked great.

ie, electric vacumm switch controled from inside the cab that opened a larger vacumm switch that allowed metered air into the plenum.

Does that make sense?

What you can use is off any carburated GM car or truck is the A/C idle up solenoid. Looks like this: http://www.google.com/images?um=1&hl...&aqi=&aql=&oq=

Go to the junk yard to get them.
