A43d tranny dipstick on different side question?
Hello all,
Got my brand new from Toyota a43d 2wd 3 spd w/od tranny from a gentleman from Michagan that he had sitting on a factory pallet since 91 in his shop. Everything is the same as the a43d on my 1990 a43d but the dipstick is on the new one on the pallet is on the drivers/exhaust manifold side and the one in my truck now is on the passenger side. I am gonna presume that all I have to do is swap the pan since they are the same except for the dipstick port. Anybody run into this?

My 86 manual shows the A43D used behind the 22r ad the 22re 2wd. Dipstick is on the drivers side. Is your 90 a V6?
In any A43d the valve body should be the same, but on North American autos I have seen the filter assembly a little different on different model applications of the same tranny. I really don't see a problem with changing the pans, but compare both transmissions first, look for any discrepancies in the filter and valve body and test fit the pans (on a bench before the install) by swaping them and see if both pans will fit each transmission.

Nope... I have a 91 22re 2wd
Figured it out... It's the same tranny except this new one is for a floor shift model and I have a column shift. I did swap the pans and noticed that there is no stub for the fnr switch. I either need to get a floor shifter and cut a hole in floor and instal or take the two trannys apart and swap the shift input shaft to the double sided one for the column shift... Hmmmm anybody have a center shifter and linkage they want to part with?
