I am looking at replacing my 2L-TE diesel engine from my Toyota Land Cruiser Proda LJ78 with a 22RE or 3VZE from an older Toyota 4Runner as well change over the ECM and the electonics.

We will be mounting the engine to a A4343F transmission, is this transmission controlled electronically through the ECM and if so what problems would we have using the ECM from th 4Runner? The 4Runner came with a A340E, A340H and A340F transmission

I was able to find out that the ECM on the 4Runner operates the transmission. The 4Runner came with a A340E, A340H and A340F transmission, I want to remove the engine and ECM from a 4Runner and put them in to a Toyota Land Cruiser with a A343F transmission, will the ECM from the 4Runner be able to run the transmission as is or can it be reprogrammed. The 340F and the A343F are suppose to be the same except for gear ratio.

I'd recomend the 3.4 instead of 3VZE.

the engine and transmission have separate computers...yes the ecm sees some of the trans but the transmission has its own computer

The engine and electronics would be coming out of a used or damaged 91-94 4Runner or 95-96 if I can find one that I can afford. Would the Trans have there own TCM for those years?
