95 4x4 pickup 22re with rv cam/power issue

I recently installed rebuilt motor into 95 4x4 pickup 22re with rv cam. I have been driving for about a year and have been dealing with power issue. Truck idles fine, runs o.k, but lacks power. Going up hill I lose rpm truck only goes 75 with pedal to floor. The truck feels like it wants to go but is bieng held back. Checked head and cam, removed cat, added header, of course replaced all tune up parts. After I installed header I got o2 fault and engine check came on. I have advanced timing retarded timing gone through the head and nothing has changed. Looking in the direction of mass air sensor or o2 sensor. I've spent alot of money not to have truck driving at full potential. Problems started after engine swap. Please Help!!!!

If the 02 sensor is original and it has a lot of miles on it, then its probably bad. If you replace it get a Denso 02 sensor, that`s an OEM part. DO NOT use a Bosch 02 sensor because they don`t work well on toyota engines and in some if not most cases it will cause your truck to run worse than it did before.

what year was the engine from that you swapped in? did you use the new motor's sensors/vsv's etc or the old one's? what about the ecu. Most people do not realize that not all 22re afm's, sensors etc etc, will work together as they have different resistances etc etc and are designed to work together. for example, an 88 22re with its own sensors swapped into a 95 using it's afm and ecu will not work properly. yes it will run, but it's not ideal.

By tune-up do you mean you just changed fluids and plugs/wires/cap/rotor?

With a bigger cam, its common practice to set the valve lash tighter I believe. Dont know what cam you have so we cant really help you there. Contact your cam manufacturer and see.

How big of a hill is this? What size tires are you running? Is this 75 mph in 5th gear? Depending on the size of the hill, I would 75 mph in a 22re is pretty good. Anyone else care to chime in on this one?

Yea, 75 up hill for any 22RE is good. What's the problem again? Remember it's only a 4 cyl. engine...

Brief sorted tale....

Had a 94 ex cab w, 3.0, could tow stuff but not fast, started leaking oil and the auto tranny was floundering, sold it.

Moved on to a few other trucks, ended up w/ an 86 runner 22re, on to an 01 tundra wow, now I'm in this 94 w/ a 22re and 4K miles on the rebuild w/ RV cam.

I have the stock tires and set the sewing "machine on roids" to specs....timing 7/8ish, idol is 750 and .08 and .10 for valves as per specs on box.... click click click

I too feel a lack of power, but it seems all the power I've lost on the bottom, I've gained at the top, I was pushing 85MPH just at 4k last night....

Getting up to speed takes some time and shifting effort if any small hills present themselves.

I know I'm having power lag after coming from a Tundra, but short of changing 3rds I'm not totally sold on the RV as of yet??

Repo

Try driving a 22re around in 8-10K feet elevation for a while.....
