95 4runner v6 4x4 question

i just got a really good deal on a 95 4runner from a buddy, it has 189k. 1 question, is it normal to hear a loud clank when turning on dry pavement in 4wd ? I never owned a 4x4 truck before so i have no idea. He doesnt know much about trucks and never used it, except once in the mud, so he was shocked to hear the noise as well. We were just in the parking lot doing 1-5 miles per hour. thanks guys. after reading up its pretty obvious ur not suppose to do it on dry pavement....im a newb....but what exactlt was making the noise?....the gears inside the front diff???

Yes it is normal, because it's binding.

It's hard on the drivetrain to turn while in 4WD on non-slip surfaces.

yeah sure. Drive it in 4wd on some grass or dirt and see how it sounds. its not fatal to do it on dry pavement, just something to be avoided because its an extra stressor on the vehicle.
