95 4runner sr5 automatic tranny prob

hello Im new so if i mess something up im sorry. i have own three 4 runners before now a 94 sr5 a 93 limited and a 93sr5 all are straight drive. I just bought another basket case as it seems its a 95 sr5.

the old tranny was shot when i bought the runner from a friend so i bought a used one from a junk yard with 98000 actule miles

the problems starts like this the new tranny after it got warm would have a shutter on take off from lights and stop signs. So i took it to a tranny shop and they explained that it was the aluminum valve body with a steel sleeve and that since the tranny set for a while that it was prob sticking on takeoff. They told me that they could put some rear differenical limited slip additive in it and it would solve my prob. i did not then and still dont know it that was supid but now if i take a trip longer then about 25 miles the tranny overheat light will come on. since this is an auto i do not have a clue what could be causing the prob. i am afraid that the tranny may be slipping and need a new one or rebuild. please help me.

Your post is very hard to understand...but I can relate to the overheating problem. It is a pretty common thing on these transmissions. As the previous poster said, I would try changing the fluid. Best would be to drop the pan, clean it out, change the filter, disconnect the cooler line, drain all the fluid, and refill with a good quality synthetic. Don't go to a quick lube flush shop, those machines have been rumored to ruin old transmissions. Good luck.
