95 3vze startup/performance issues

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I have a 95 v6 4x4 manual DLX pickup with 181k on the odometer. I've had it since ~164k (a little over 2 years). Lately it's acting up. When I start it up in the morning (after sitting overnight) there is a strong vibration through the engine. It lasts between 30-60 seconds, and then goes away. Drives fine after that. I tried seafoam in the gas tank, and it seemed to help a little. Start it up this morning, the vibration is still there. It drives fine after it stops shaking...

...However, lately there seems to be a slight surging when I'm on the gas cruising around town. At highway speeds (over 55) the surging goes away. When I say "surging," I'm not sure if that's the correct phrase. It feels like a slight hesitation in the gas pedal (something akin to a slight misfire maybe). Acceleration is fine, but it feels like there's that friction/hesitation when I'm driving under 55. Bad fuel filter?

I've had a tune up in the past 10k miles...the timing belt has been changed, new water pump, new brakes, new knock sensor, new rear main seal, new valve cover gasket, new radiator (jesus, I've done a lot to this truck). I'm not sure if the head gasket had been replaced. i called my dealership and they have no record of it being changed through their network. They also quoted me a $2k estimate to fix the HG.

A big wall of text, I know. Anyone have any insight? You guys seem to know your s*** (I'm not very mechanically inclined).

Thanks!

Fuel and spark.

Seafoam isn't a very good injector cleaner. Get a cleaner with the highest amount of polyether amines you can. Redline is the best of which I'm aware: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums...Number=1865221

Change fuel filter. Could be your fuel pump too. That's a common problem now that our trucks are of a certain age.

On spark -- plugs, rotor, wires, and check your ignition component sensors per FSM. Those sensors have going or are going kaput on most folks vehicles right about now too.

Cool, thanks for the info. I'll try out Redline.

For a fuel pump, should I stick with OEM? Denso? Bosch? Does it matter?

Look at Denso aftermarket. Same as OEM but half the price or less. Think about $125 online from Denso USA or one of their online resellers for full kit including new prefilter... Might want to replace your rear fuel line too if corroded and soft fuel lines too. Pulling the bed is probably the easiest way to access.
