...got cracked while I was taking off the power steering belt in order to change out water pump/timing belt/etc (I would be hating myself for doing this "just cuz," but the water pump actually went out, so it wasn't just a bored-lets-work-on-the-car thing). So now a job that is already a somewhat large PITA is now going to be a major PITA.

This will be the third timing belt I've done on the venerable 3.0, but I've never messed with the A/C.

My question all of you is: After I (painstakingly, I've already decided), replaced the cracked hose, what should be my next steps? Do I need to do anything rather than get the recharge kit with gauges and have at it? How much should the system hold? Can't quite read the sticker on the rad. crossover...

Also, and I almost don't want to hear the answer to this. The sticker says its R134a. However, in looking at the fittings where you charge the system, it resembles sort of a large valve stem. There's a cap which you remove, then under that is a large fitting which is internally threaded with a schrader valve-looking thing. Aren't 134 systems supposed to be quick-disconnect, like an air chuck?

If someone switched this thing FROM R134a TO R12, I might just and then

If it is R134a then you will need to get a special fitting that screws into the schrader valve, and then the charging gauges should screw onto that.

Never mind on that last part. Went back outside and took a closer gander at her, and she's got 134 fittings like she ought to.

Still need help though haha. It sucks because it was blowing out ICE COLD air, even in the 100 degrees/100% humidity we've been having here in Raleigh...
