It does take a some mod but not too much. Easy is expensive and anything Mod will be cheaper. Search here for the GM one wire install. I would not got the Jaguar alt tho.

I'm about to do a swap my self see here's the issue I know what casing and there's a TG part they have fabbed up to fit it perfectly my issue is that I want to do a 3 wire and I'm not sure if the alternator I found is capable of doing it. I'll post the link to couple of pages I found so far that helped I haven't installed it yet because I just can't figure 100% which alternator it is

I spent a lot of time looking for all these things hope this helps others because it's a much needed mod in these trucks I just run ac and at idle my voltage is sapped

caraudio.com..... excessive amperage, mechman alternators (i own one) and a bunch of vendors to get good deals.... not to mention all the good used ones for sale.... even on caraudioclassifieds.com....

put one like that on my low ridder 22r where the ac goes over a decade ago... i believe a newer cavilier/sunfire/ s10 alternator from the mid-90's would fit in there better. like a cs156a, i believe.... little rusty on the numbers.... but remember to do what is called "the big 3".... it's basically beefing up the grounds and power wires to handle the output.

Ok so go bigger gauge I was thinking at least 6 or even 4. so is it any of the 12si casing is what I'm wondering because I could get the big power master one for less then 150 right now and it's got 150 amp. I'm going to be running a winch and power inverter and dual battery set up so this is why I'm wondering if I'm going long distances and one decides to fail I can have a couple cheap parts on board

There's an outfit in California that will do a custom wind to about any amperage you want...but they cost as much as buying a hi-amp alt off the shelf.

Yea there's a shop here in town that will custom your alternators but he did say that buying a cheaper alternator such as a gm will be less. He said to just try n find something with at least 100 amps and if I go over 150 that it would be better to have 2 alternators but I truly feel like these engines (22re) wouldn't take it. I ended up buying the power master one found it on eBay for 143 and the trail gear bracket is on sale right now. So I'm going with 150amps there are a ton of other cheaper gm alternators in the same casing that will fit that bracket but I don't know about timing on them or really anything in that aspect of alternators but I do know there are cheaper routes to go

my little mechman puts out 279a on the tahoe... stock was 165a. with those larger case gm alternators you generally have lower output options. but yah, when you get over 150 you need a better or doubled diode trio and heatsink(s), but i wouldn't say it's better to go with 2 alternators.

So I did the swap yesterday I went with the 150 amp powermaster 12si alternator. I did make the normal size belt work and did the 3 wire mod. Now just to let u know everything I know about these trucks and everything I have done to my truck has been because of yota tech YouTube and a bunch of research on the Internet. I was lucky to have a buddy who's a diesel mechanic help me with it to make it go a little quicker. Problems I ran into. The lower radiator hose just disconnect the whole thing with the bolts from the bottom but don't pull it from the engine bay just move it around so u don't have to fit it back in there. I did end up shaving the top bracket down a little bit so that the power steering bracket didn't rub on it. The wiring was fine except I bought a pre made battery cable which was kinda pain should of just made them my self and would have been cheaper. I found a super cheap 175amp fuse at orileys for 5 bucks. I didn't put the 50 ohm resistor in line with wire that goes to the dash light but the volt meter still works. After it was installed I noticed it right away any draw I put on the battery had no effect to my rpms it ran great the ac didn't put any draw on it either which was really nice.
If anyone has any questions just message me id love to help. I ended up removing the distributor and the whole power steering pump to make things go smoother. Make sure u have a jack that can push the motor up because when u unbolt the motor mount to put in the lower alternator bracket it's going to move and it can be a big pain trying to get those bolts back in

So I think I did some bad wiring or something I don't know if it's my battery or what I have a feeling the alternator wasn't charging the battery might be the 175 watt fuse but I can't tell. I charged the battery for a min and it came on but stayed below half way on the volt meter. Now main wire from alternator goes fuse which is bolted straight to the battery is this an issue? Or should I have it alternator wire fuse wire battery ? Help my truck is down the street dead in the water
