I say yes as long as you aren't planning to put a lot of weight on the trailer.

Cool Tire Pressure

Check the lights on the trailer and make sure that you wired them right

Check your Tire Pressure, low pressure causes bad gas mileage and could result in a blowout

Make sure you have the right trailer hitch with a good ground, my new hitch was fresh and the paint kept me from getting bright lights on the trailer until I grounded the trailer to my bumper

Use your CB if you have one

You'll have no problems if you maintain the truck right. My 94 p/u 22RE pulled a loaded 6'x12' Uhaul trailer, 3-4k lbs, from Colorado to Alabama (27 hrs, normally 19) with no issues-Safety 1st!

thats quite a feat for the little 22re! my v6 had some issues with a 16' trailer weighing in at 3k lbs, just under the rated tow capacity.

I had no problems towing approx 5k lbs for 45mins. Of course, I didn't go any faster than 60mph at any given time....and I wouldn't do it very often at all.........just keep your speed down and keep overdrive off and you'll be fine. Overdrive once at a set speed might work, but it'll constantly kick down a gear...I just took o/d off for most of it.
