i have another problem. my truck has a hard time starting and i been told it could be the timing chain. they said the timing is off. could this be true? i changed my maf sensor, alternator, battery, spark plugs, wires, relay, and the ignition switch. they where all wrong and they made me change all that for nothing. so now is the timing of the timing chain and i wanted to know what do you guys think could be the problem. thanks.... any help would be appreciated ^_^ im just so sick of spend money on things that dont need to be changed...

Timing and the Timing Chain, while close in nature, are not the same when it comes to hard starting. Your timing is part of the function managed/driven by the timing chain, but replacing the timing chain will not necessarily fix your hard starting.

Get a Timing Light and set the timing according to the Service Manual.

There is a possibility of the timing chain jumping and causing the hard starting but there would be some other major issues when this happens.

Timing chains make noise when going out and "maybe could" effect timing when starting--??? not likely. It is most likely not the main cause of hard starting. Set the actual Timing with a Light and see if this helps the issue.

I had the same issue on my 91. The problem with mine was that the guides for the chain had been worn so much the chain had rubbed a hole in the timing cover. I changed out the timing chain with a DOA set and it starts up fine now.

Pull the valve cover off and shine a light down on the timing guides. You can tell the general condition by looking at them for the top. Check the chain for excessive play also. When i got my truck the chain had worn through the case and the PO drove around a lot like that, toasted the motor. Crank destroyed as was all the bearings. So make sure that the guides are ok. I wouldnt mess with the guides if they are fine...if it aint broke, don't fix it. Check your valve adjustment btw...if they are too tight then it could cause hard starting...does it start fine when warm?
