I have a 94 runner V6 with over 200k on the original shocks. Needless to say its time to replace them. Any one have any suggestions for a good riding shock that won't cost too much? I went cheap and put some KIB's on my 94 pu a few years back and was not impressed with the ride. Looking for a little higher quality. Any advice would be appreciated.

Bilstein HD. @$68 each thru Advance or Autozone. Best shock for the money. Last forever & work like a shock should.

I used Doetsch Tech MV 12's on the rear of my 91 4Runner. They are very soft....Maybe too soft for some people, but I prefer a very soft ride.

I ran Rancho RS5000 all around on my 87 and they were fine if a little stiffer than stock... running RS5000s in the rear on my 94 with factory originals up front but that may have to change I think the city potholes have finally blown out one of the fronts... since going thru one yesterday getting a strange grindy squeek from the right front all of a sudden...
probably get RS 5000s again... would consider Bilstein or OMU but too pricey around here.

Well the BS are nice, I do not know how many times I have had people come in and want some cheap shocks on their Chevy, and I tell them over and over that their BS with 120k on them will ride nicer than any cheap shock that is new. But they insist and hate it.

I Have Rancho RS5000 on my runner and they ride quite nice! I had heard complaints that they ride rough, but that was from guys running F250 shocks on their trucks because of a lift. They are valved differently based on the application.

You can also find the Monroe Reflex shocks that are the same as the RS5000, but a little cheaper. They are a variable valve shock also, but the Rancho has larger shafts and thicker outer housing to handle a little more abuse on the trail.

Shocks, Tires, Brakes!

The three things that you will feel the most on the car, an the 3 things you will get what you pay for. But it does not mean you need to spend a fortune. Just do not go the cheap route.

Does Fox make shocks for this year of 4runner? I wanted to get some for my 95 runner cause I've used them on my downhill bike, love them and figured they'd be nice on the there. But according to the site they only make them for 96 and up...

I had the same thing. 200k on my oem shocks and needed new shocks. I went with ProComp ES3000's. Bought them online and got a good deal, though, I dont remember who I bought them from now. They accomodate for a 2" suspension lift if you want. On my 92, theyre firm and a good truck ride. Not too bouncy and not too soft. I like them.

Fox BDS 2.0's you spend a little more but my jacked up sased 93 pick-up on 35's drives nicer than girlfriends 2009 honda civic. and not to mention they kick ass off road.
