Greetings, Working on my sons 94 Toyota Pickup last night. We changed fluids in the rear, transfer case and engine. I could not get the fill plug out of the transmission. The plug/bolt was slightly rounded when I started, and now is just a little under hammered. Edges are toast and the pipe wrench gouged it up a bit. The darn thing is on there super tight. Two of us pushing and pulling could not budge it. I cant get a good enough purchase with a pipe wrench and am at a stand still. Going to try again today, I sprayed it down with PB Blaster, in hopes that that would work.

Any one have a good plug/bolt in the Lakewood/Golden Colorado area?
Last resort is to order a new one from Toyota

And anyone have a good idea how to get the plug/bolt off? I am thinking a bigger pipe wrench would work.

Truck is a 94, 22RE, 5 speed. Unsure of the trans model, believe it to be the
W56? Fill port is on the drivers side.

Hey , I had the same problems .....Finally got an 8" cold chiesl and 4 lb. shop hammer it will take 2 or 3 good blows with hammer to get into the bolt enough to get it loose.....Then you can take a small pipe wrench or pr. of vice grips to twist it off when put the new one in I use copper base anti galling compound on the bolt threads and a new cooper washer....Hope that helps you......Gearmax

Also, Irwin.......and other companies.......make sockets to pull rounded off bolt and nuts. Irwin calls them "Bolt Grips". Not sure about others. It's handy set to have around. They cut into and grip the rounded bolt/nut head.

Heat the fill plug, if you can, and tap it with a hammer a bunch. Gotta relieve the surface tension. That should make it easier. You may not need to with the Bolt Grip, though. Those things are amazing. Makes short work of frozen, rounded-off headbolts.

Oh....and jack the driver's side of the vehicle up a bit to give you more clearance for a breaker bar and long cheater pipe. With the Bolt Grip, that will get it off.

Air hammer with chisel bit and PB Blaster took it off.
New plug in place just have to finish putting last bit of oil in and I am good to go.
