94 22RE Swap

I have a 94 22RE 4x4 5 speed with 142,000. Runs fine but rusted out. I have a 94 22RE 4x4 automatic with 173,000 on it that's mint that I want to put on the road. I bought it NOT RUNNING. Possible timing problem. I've never heard it run. Should I swap the engines or rebuild the one already in it. And if I swap what will I need to change on the engine from the stick to fit the auto??? Can't find definitive answers...

If your manual engine has a dashpot then you'll want to install that. Not sure about the ECU.

dashpot? Is it called anything else? That's one thing I've never heard of. And am I doing something wrong that I'm getting only 1 reply? I'm totally new to this site and I find it hard to navigate around and post things or find my own posts. lol

I'd personally see about getting the motor running that's already in it, first. Give it the run-down. Pull the valve cover and have a good look at the valve train and timing chain. If all looks good, set the timing correctly, then proceed with a compression test and leakdown test to rule out a bad head gasket, bad rings, or valves etc. Make sure you have spark at all 4 plugs etc etc. 2 trucks on the road is way better than 1!

Best of luck!

P.S. You're not doing anything wrong, just keep us updated and keep asking questions. You'll get replies. Patience is key!
