94 22R Leaf mod help
New here, age 26 Pennsylvania. ASE Cert self employed running a shop with my dad. Build/blueprint/tune race engines for Mitsubishi. Custom boat fab, glass etc.
I have a mint condition blue '94 22RE 5spd 2WD who has no idea what rust is. I have done the chain and guides and got right into my summer boating sports only to find that this thing has nowhere near the balls that my 2.8l 2WD chevy had.
I seem to have flattened the leaf springs and occassionally after hooking up now, with no weight I encounter a condition with FLAT leafs where it feels as if the suspension is solid and it bounces like mad.
I have done several AWD conversions on different vehicles and since I paid BlueBook for this thing, thats not in the picture just yet.
So for the time being, I have searched and had trouble finding guys with this gen model who have modified the rear leafs for ride height/stiffness.
I have a few chevys outback and one of them has a simialir leaf, Im just wondering if/what you guys are doing. Id like to bring the ride height and or the stiffness up a bit while using the same leaf brackets. Anyone have any history/links to supply? Would the 4x4 leafs fit? I wanted to swap it 4x4 for towing/driving NOT wheeling, so are the 4x4 frames the same? I would consider the 4x4 conversion if all I need is a roller with a driveline...
Remember, NO WHEELING here! Solid work/tow only.

Welcome. No 2wd and 4wd frames are not the same. THe 2wd setups are different in the front, not leaving room for a front differential. Only way to 4wd swap is to cut out the IFS and put in your solid axle of choice.
If your leaves are shot, they probably need to be replaced. But you could try throwing an extra leaf or two in each side if you have extras.

Its tough to know for sure, the ride height to me looks about OEM with no weight. But the leafs are darn near flat. Im going to to see if I cant stick a Chevy one in it before I do anything else to see what that does.

If the leafs are flat, time for new ones or see if they can be re-arched. Mods? Blocks, shackle kit (don't get the cheap ones, somebody makes some stronger than the OE Toyota but longer), custom leafs. Stiffness? KYB Gas-A-Just shocks are pretty stiff.

Its fully stock. The leafs are nearly flat. I remember pricing them when I bought it(hated the rear ride height) and it seemed too expensive. So I guess Im going to start checking the local you-pull inventory, they dont see these often around these parts anymore. I want to stay OEM or possibly a bit stiffer and taller if certain aftermarket leaf systems could do it, junkyard parts.
