I own a 1994 auto 3.slow with 32" on it and it was getting about that for mileage when i picked it up. Try a full tune up fuel filter, air, etc make sure the alignment is close or that will burn the petro. you might want to check the timing for giggles.

Nah don't waste money on a tune up that is not the problem.I have 90 3.0 auto with 3inch body lift and 33x12.5s.The stock gearing in our trucks is made for 28 inch tires or smaller!!!You have to re gear if you wanna see gas mileage I get like 10-12mpg on the stock 4.10 gears my truck runs at 2500 rpms in 3rd gear at 60 mph.I have bought a set of 5.29 gears for the rear end and this will bring my rpms back up and give me back all the power lost in acceleration and should give me a minimum of 17 mpg.

regearing is relatively expensive so gl.

Check inside your driver's side door frame.
Looks at the bottom right hand corner. It will say something like G292, G284 or G254.
Tell us what you find.
I'm guessing you have G284, which means a 4.3:1 diff ratio. You will need at least a 4.88 with an auto with 33" tires.

When I had the Runner, it was on 33's, 4.30's, 5 speed. I could make the trip from ridgecrest to big bear, 70-75 all the way, still get around 14-15. Ask anyone on here in cali how bad the 18 from lucerne is. Here are the stats on that truck.

94
K&N air and oil filters
Royal purple engine, trans, t-case and diff's
E3 plugs
Magnaflow Muffler

Now, if it had 4.88's, more than likely would have pulled 19-20. So, 4.88's.

EDIT- and who knows when the last tune-up was performed on this truck? Just picked up my 84, drove her for a week, did a complete tune-up, made a world of difference. I dont think the PO of this truck did anything, runs great now.

Throw some 5.29's into your diffs, that will put you just past stock in terms of gearing.

I have 4.88's wich match my 33's and 5sp perfect. I have gotten as high as 21mpg on the hwy Not bad for a lifted truck!

If you drop to 31s you will need a 4.88 ratio with your automatic.I would stick with 33s and just buy some 5.29s.However if you are not mechanically inclined at all look at 1k a axle max.

If you start reading up on differentials and the whole ifs the diffs are rather easy to swap out and would save you a ton of money! You can do front and rear for about a grand maybe a little more If you install the third members back into the differentials your self instead of paying a shop to do it.
