Hello, new to this and am looking for some helpful opinions.

Currently working on repairing my 93 pick up 4 cycl 22re. Timing chain went out, and upon inspection i realized when it broke, it took some of the cover with it.

My question is whether or not a need to shell out $150 for a new cover.v

The only difference is a 3 inch cressent shaped lip that's about 1/3 inch thick.
I cannot figure out what purpose it serves. (chain guide? Oil catch?) And really don't want to spend the cash.

Way to much shaking in that picture to tell whats going on. Use a tripod, or anything you can brace your arm with would help.

Anyways, enginebldr has a timing chain package that includes a cover for about half that price.

I've already got everything, just trying to decide if i need a new cover.
Specifically if that 3 inch crescent shaped piece is important..can't figure out what its use is.

unless I was really broke, I wouldn't take the chance...unless to be contrary; like when I left the broken pieces of chain guide down somewhere in the pan in mine 17,000 trouble-free miles ago...

as long as it looks like it didnt shave off too much metal or its not craked i would just put it back on.
